Jewelry Care

At Redmond Diamond Center, we recommend and offer complimentary jewelry cleaning and inspection. Visit us once or twice a year to check for loose prongs, worn mountings, general wear-and-tear, and to receive a professional deep cleaning.

Basic Tips for Jewelry Care and Maintenance:

  1. Proper Storage: Store your jewelry in a clean, dry place. Use a fabric-lined jewelry case, separate pieces from each other, or keep them in their original box or pouch to avoid scratches or cracks. Even diamonds can be scratched by other diamonds.
  2. Avoid Product Residue: Do not apply soap, perfume, lotion, or cream directly on your jewelry. These products can accumulate on the jewelry surface and in the prongs, loosening the setting and making your jewelry look dull.
  3. Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Keep your jewelry away from chlorine or salt water, which can damage and discolor metals like gold and platinum, and erode the finish and polish of your gemstones.
  4. Sterling Silver Care: Sterling silver jewelry needs extra care. Silver tarnishes faster in high humidity, air pollution, and contact with cosmetics, hairspray, perfume, deodorant, lotion, bleach, etc. Use a silver polish cloth ONLY for polishing, and avoid silver cleaners.
